Registration is open to anyone 18 years or older capable of safely completing a triathlon of equal or longer distance as the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Half Distance Triathlon in the allotted time.

To get a discount, the Club Presidents must send us the names of the participants who have successfully completed the Ocean Lava Triathlon. As soon as we have checked this list, we will transfer the amount to the club.

Triathlon licence

Each competitor must have a valid triathlon license. If you do not have a license, you have to buy a "one day" Spanish license during the registration process for 10 €.

Race courses

Swim Course - 1.9 k

The Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon Swim Course for the Half Distance consits of:

  • 1 lap of 1.9 km

Swim course regulations

  • There will be separate starts for men and women.
  • You are not allowed to swim with a bare torso.
  • Wetsuits are forbidden when the water temperature is above 24.6 C. (the official water temperature is measured 1 hour before race start).
  • Athletes aged 50+ are allowed to participate with a wetsuit whatever the water temperature is.
  • Race number and compression calfs are allowed only when wearing a wetsuit.
  • Swim cut off time for the half distance triathlon is 10:03.

Bike Course - 90 k

Bike course regulations

  • Drafting is not allowed.
  • Penalty for drafting is 5 minutes.
  • Aerobars are allowed. 
  • Athletes must wear the race number visible on their bike and helmet.
  • Bike cut off time 14:30. 

Run Course - 21 k

The 21 km run course of the Half Distance Triathlon consists of 3 laps. We will provide 2 aid stations along each stretch.

Run course regulations

  • The laps will be controlled and supervised by timing mats, chips and judges.
  • Runners must wear the race number in the front of their race shirt and it must be clearly visible at all times.
  • You are not allowed to run with a bare torso.
  • You are not allowed to be accompanied by anybody (friends, team members, managers or other pacemakers) on the course.
  • Prohibited: Headphones – mobile phones – video cameras – go pro or other electronic listening communication device.
  • It is the athlete's responsibility to know the run course.
  • Cut off time for the run course is 17:30.

Age group champions men & women

Champion of the year medal for age group winners.
Age groups are divided by year (18, 19, 20...). You will race in the age group that corresponds to your age on race day.

Finishers men & women

Each finisher will receive a Finisher T-Shirt and a Finisher Medal
Awards not collected by 31/12/2019 will be forfeited

General rules and regulations

The Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon is following the Spanish Triathlon Federations regulations. The following rules and regulations apply to all races.

Please make sure to read the following rules and regulations before signing up for your race.

Triathlon licence & insurance

All participants (no exceptions) must have a valid triathlon licence and a casualty (accident) insurance to participate in our races.

Option 1

You have a valid Triathlon licence and you’re privately insured.

Option 2

You need to buy a day license during the registration process that includes a casualty (accident) insurance.

The Spanish Triathlon Federation (FECANTRI) includes a casualty (accident) insurance in the day licence.

Transition area
  • To enter the transition area, you must present a valid triathlon licence or ID.
  • Equipment must be placed in the designated bike corral and individually assigned bike rack.
  • Only equipment used for competition can be left in the transition area, other belongings must be removed before the race start.
  • If a box is provided, all used equipment must be deposited in the box.
  • Bike equipment such as shoes, glasses, helmet, bottles, energy bars etc can be placed on the bike.
  • Marking positions inside the transition area are forbidden and will be removed without notification.
  • Indecent exposure (nudity) is forbidden
  • It is forbidden to bring any glass container inside the transition area.

Unsportsmanlike conduct

  • Any unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Use of abusive language
  • Un respectful behavior to other athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators is strictly prohibited.

Penalty: disqualification


Littering

  • All equipment and belongings must stay on the athlete the entire time.
  • No garbage, clothing etc. must be thrown away.
  • Glass containers are prohibited during the race and in the transition area.

Penalty: Time penalties or disqualification

Swim course

Swimmers must follow the following rules & regulations otherwise they will receive a penalty or will be disqualified.

  • It’s the swimmer’s responsibility to follow the prescribed swim course.
  • Swimmers have their start numbers printed on their swim caps. It is prohibited to transfer the start number to another person without authorization of the race director.
  • Any type of swimming technique may be used you can even walk if necessary.
  • Swimmers can stand on the ground or rest on an object such as a buoy or a boat, which must not be used for locomotion.
  • In case of emergency, swimmers must wave their arms over their heads and ask for help. Once official assistance is rendered, the athlete must retire from the competition.

Wetsuits

  • The use of a wetsuit can be required, optional or prohibited according to the distance and water temperature.
  • Athletes 50 an older are always allowed to use a wetsuit.
  • Water temperature is measured 1 hour prior to the start of the race
  • Race numbers are only allowed when wearing a wetsuit.
  • Compression calves are only allowed when wearing a wetsuit.
Bike course

Cyclists must follow the following rules & regulations otherwise they will receive a penalty or will be disqualified.

  • It’s the cyclists’ responsibility to follow the prescribed bike course.
  • Cyclists must position the start number on the bike and helmet. They may not be cut, folded or altered in any way. It is prohibited to transfer the start number to another person without authorization of the race director.
  • Cyclists must not block other cyclists.
  • Cyclists must not cycle with a naked torso.
  • Cyclists must not overhaul without a bicycle.
  • Cyclists must always follow the traffic regulations.
  • Cyclists leaving the race course for safety reasons must return without overhauling anybody.
  • Cyclists must not cross the white centre line.
  • Modifications on helmets are not allowed.
  • Helmets must be worn, and chin straps must be buckled at all times while in contact with your bike (before you pick up your bike and until you leave your bike in the transition area).
  • Any outside assistance other than the one offered by race officials will lead to disqualification.

Drafting & aero bars

Super Sprint

Drafting is allowed - aero bars or clip on bars are not allowed.


Olympic distance

Drafting* is not allowed – aero bars** and clip on bars** are allowed.

Penalty: 2 minutes.


Half distance

Drafting* is not allowed – aero bars** and clip on bars** are allowed.

Penalty: 5 minutes.

* If you are caught by a marshal for drafting, he will show you a blue card and you must report to the next penalty box and follow the instructions of the marshals. Is the athlete’s responsibility to stop in the next available penalty box. Failing to stop will result in a disqualification!

** Aero bars and clip on bars must not extend the leading edge of the front wheel. Clip on bars in two pieces do not need to be bridged. All tube ends must be plugged.

Run course

Runners must follow the following rules & regulations otherwise they will receive a penalty or will be disqualified.

  • It’s the runner’s responsibility to follow the prescribed run course.
  • The runners must wear the start number on the front of their racing jersey and it must be clearly visible always. They may not be cut, folded or altered in any way.
  • It is prohibited to transfer the start number to another person without authorization of the race director.
  • The runners can run or walk but must not crawl. The runners must not run with a naked upper body.
  • A one-piece triathlon suit is recommended. You can run with a naked back from the waist upwards.
  • The runners must not run wearing a bike helmet.
  • The runners must not use posts, trees or other fixed elements to assist manoeuvring curves.
  • The runners must not be accompanied by friends, team members, team managers or other pacemakers on the course.
Environmental Declaration
  • I assume that my participation in the next edition of the OCEAN LAVA 2018 career entails a commitment on my part towards respecting the ecological, environmental and ethnographic values of the place where the test is held, in accordance with the specific regulation of the place where that the competition and/or of all those restrictions derived from the environmental protection figures currently enjoyed by the place of the test is developed.
  • That I commit myself to comply with the environmental norms and protocols established by the Organization for the race in which I will participate, as well as willingly attend the indications that could be sent from the staff of the organization, security and emergency bodies and other people who are integrated in the development of the event. All this is a guarantee of conservation of the natural values that motivated the declaration of this natural space under a protection figure.
  • I am informed (as stated in the regulations) and I accept that not complying with any or some of these environmental commitments could be grounds for disqualification of the race, taking into account the seriousness of the fault incurred, without prejudice to Other responsibilities associated with the environmental protection regulations in force in the natural area in question.
  • I will strictly follow the route stipulated by the organization, without abandoning the routes marked as safeguarding the natural conditions of the layout, flora and local fauna.
  • I promise not to throw garbage or any type of waste during the entire course of the test, including those derived from containers of gels and own material that makes use. In case I must get rid of any waste, I will go to any of the career volunteers located in the provisioning stations.
  • I am aware that in the refreshment posts I will not dispose of disposable containers for the intake of liquids and / or to transport it during the race, so I will have to use my own stockings (camelback, drums, etc.).
  • I will avoid emitting noises or shouts along the route, just as I will not use any sound element that could alter the natural habitat of species that are characteristic of the area, especially local birds sensitive to these actions.
  • Under no concept or reason can I alter the normal layout of the route leaving any mark or sign on the route that damages or modifies the natural state of the route.
  • I will warn and inform the people who accompany me during my participation in the race about their obligation to comply with all those recommendations and indications regarding environmental respect that the organization of the event diffuses publicly through different ways and procedures. I will also encourage you to follow my evolutions in the test from the different viewpoints established by the organization.
Disclaimer
  • I know and I agree to the rules of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, under which the sporting event called OCEAN LAVA LANZAROTE, is to be held on October 26, 2019.
  • I am physically well prepared for the competition, in good general health, not suffering from any disease, physical defect or injury that may be aggravated by my participation in this race. If during the race, I suffer some kind of injury or any other situation that could seriously damage my health, I will inform the Organization as soon as possible.
  • I attend of my own will and fully accept the risks and consequences of my participation.
  • I agree to abide by the rules and the security protocols established by the Organization for the race in which I will participate, and to maintain a responsible behaviour that does not increase the risks to my physical safety, or the safety of the rest of the participants, or the staff of the Organization.
  • I authorize the Medical Services, to give me any treatment or diagnostic test that might be needed and I agree not to suspend that treatment if the Medical Services think it necessary for my health.
  • I authorize the organization the use on any photograph, footage or recording obtained during the event,
  • I participate voluntarily and accept full responsibility during the race. Therefore, I exempt the Organization, collaborators, sponsors and any other participants, from any liability for any physical or material damage and therefore renounce any complaint or lawsuit against them.
  • I know that the organizer reserves the right to accept a participant or not. Should I not be admitted, even having paid the subscription, I understand that the amount paid would not be returned.
  • I agree to follow the general guidelines of respect for the environment where the competition will take place and not to leave waste objects, either solid or liquid, outside of the places designated to collect them.
  • I accept responsibility for any injury or damage that may be caused, both to me and to third parties if I fail to comply with the rules as stated.
  • I know of the specific regulations for the event as well as the regulations of the Spanish Triathlon Federation. I agree with these stated regulations and agree to accept, abide by and comply with them.
  • I know and accept that in the case of the event being suspended, before race day, for any reason whatsoever, I will be reimbursed with the part of my registration fee that has not already been spent on a third party.

 

  • I know and accept that in the case of the event being suspended for any reason during the race day, the registration fee will not be returned.
  • I know and accept that I exempt any responsibility from the organization for the personal belongings deposited in boxes, cloakrooms or for any of the equipment used in the event.
  • I know and accept that I exempt any responsibility from the organization for any physical or material damage that may occur before, during or after the event
