Race Course Ocean Lava Triathlon

Half Distance Triathlon Swim Course - 1.9k

The Ocean Lava Half Distance Swim course consists of two loops with a little beach run in between and is situated at the Playa Grande beach in Puerto del Carmen, next to the Hotel Fariones Playa.

The cristal clear water offers great visibility and it's temperature is around 21 C. For your security we have a number of lifeguards, kayaks and safety boats.

If we have more than 500 participants there will be a wave start.

Quarter Triathlon Swim Course - 0.95k

Same course as the Half Distance Triathlon but the course consists of one loop only.

Transition area

After finishing the swim course, all triathletes will proceed to the Transition area and get ready for the bike course.

Half Distance Triathlon Bike Course - 90k

Bike course elevation

Enjoy beautiful landscapes and sceneries including volcano fields, the wine area of La Geria or the pictoresque villages of Yaiza and El Golfo before arriving in Las Breñas the biggest challenge of the day: The climb to Femes, a slope of over 20% whichs might be the only reason, stepping off your bike before finishing the bike course - but hey, walking is legal.

After managing this heavy slope you will cross the Timanfaya National Park. Enjoy the changing colours of the volcanoes that make this area so special.

Quarter Triathlon Bike Course - 45k

Same course as the Half Distance Triathlon but with a Turn Point in Uga; home of the famous Lanzarote Camels.

Transition area

After completing the bike course, all athletes enter the transition area and get ready for the run course. 

Half Distance Triathlon Run Course 21.1k

The Ocean Lava Half Distance Triathlon run course is a three loop course.

After leaving the transition area you run out towards the turn point at Playa Los Pocillos just before arriving at the Sea Side Hotel Jameos del Agua.

Quarter Distance Triathlon Run Course 10.55k

The Ocean Lava Quarter Distance Triathlon run course is a two loop course.

After leaving the transition area you run out towards the turn point at Playa Los Pocillos just before arriving at the Hotel San Antonio. 

Cut off times Half Distance Triathlon

The cut off times for the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon will be strictly enforced throughout the course.

Swim course

The 1.9k swim course  must be completed within 1 hour 10 minutes.

Bike course

The 90k bike course  must be completed within 5 hours 45 minutes.

Run course

The 21.1k run course must be completed within 2 hours 45 minutes.

Cut off times Quarter Distance Triathlon

The cut off times for the Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon will be strictly enforced throughout the course.

Swim course

The 0.95k swim course  must be completed within 40 minutes.

Bike course

The 45k bike course  must be completed within 2 hours 20 minutes.

Run course

The 10.55k run course must be completed within 2 hours.

Timing

  • We use ChampionChipTiming System.
  • Participants must wear a ChampionChip, strapped on their ankle, throughout the race.
  • No chip - no timing - no results!
  • Please make sure to return the Champion Chip at Finish Zone.
  • Relay Team Members must pass the ChampionChip at each transition.
  • If you drop out of the race, you must turn in your ChampionChip at the transition area.

There is a 50 € charge for a lost ChampionChips.

Spectators advice

  • Tell your athlete where you are situaded be on the course.
  • Have a look at the map before the race day.
  • Know your athlete's race number & projected times for each leg of the event. 
  • Allow yourself plenty of time to find a car park. 
  • Be careful along the course and don't get in the way of athletes.
  • Obbey the commands of the police and course marshals.
  • Fix a meeting point after the race.
  • Bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses & bottled water.

It is forbidden to paint messages of encouragement on the roads. Respect the island of Lanzarote which is a Biosphere Reserve.
